Baseball Splits with Penn State Berks in Doubleheader

The Lions hosted a doubleheader for the second time in as many days.

READING, Pa. – Baseball (11-9-1, 3-6 MAC Commonwealth) capped off a busy weekend with a pair of games against Penn State Berks (3-12-2) on Sunday afternoon. After the Nittany Lions took game one, Albright's bats exploded in what was a game two blowout to salvage the day.

Game 1: L, 8-3

Berks opened the scoring with a four spot in the top of the first before the Lions began to strike back in their first opportunity to hit. Sam Specht got things started with a double to left center before Jake Manuel drove in Anthony Knight a few batters later on a sacrifice fly.

As a team the Lions bullpen helped stop the bleeding allowing only one unearned run in 3.1 innings of work. Quincy Bell and J.D. Graziano each pitched 1.1 innings out of the bullpen in game one.

Specht would come through yet again in the fifth inning with a single to centerfield to score Sameer German. German finished the day on base twice via a hit and walk.

Ultimately the Nittany Lions would hold on for an 8-3 win to take game one.

Game 2:

After the Nittany Lions struck first yet again, the Lions began what was a 15-hit day with nine runs in the first inning where seemingly no hitter could do anything wrong.

Tommy Lewman recorded two hits in the first inning which included a homerun to left field to put the Lions out front (2-1). Lewman ended the day three for three with five RBIs.

Joining Lewman with three hits were Christian Eckstein and Anthony Knight who went a combined six for six with a walk and six more RBIs.

After a nine run first inning, the Lions would score a pair in both the second and third, before also putting up a four spot in the fourth inning for 17 total runs on the day. Jake Andrews picked up and RBI double in the second while Luke Filliben chipped in with a sacrifice fly in the fourth.

Gannon Carvajal pitched 2.1 inning in relief to pick up his first win of the season.
