MELBOURNE, Fl. – Softball (3-1) split their doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon beginning the day with a 9-2 victory over Concordia (Minn.) (3-6) and later falling to Rose-Hulman (3-2) in a pitchers duel 2-0.
Game 1: W, 9-2
Albright came out of the gates swinging, plating six runs across the first two innings.
The first four batters of the game all reached base via three hits and a hit by pitch.
Grace Landante doubled to bring home
Juliette Licata and was followed by
Slaydon Fisher who doubled that scored
Mya Frana and Landante.
Leading 3-0 heading into the top of the second inning, the Lions were poised for more collecting five total hits in the inning. Licata and Landante each had RBI singles in the inning. The Lions' sixth run of the day came on a double steal that allowed Frana to steal home.
The Lions scored one run in each of the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. A fisher double scored Licata in the fourth,
Riley Winchell stole home for a run in the fifth and
Alexis Laboy plated Fisher in the sixth on an RBI single.
Landante and Fisher ended the game with three hits a piece and combined for five RBIs. Lictata recorded two hits and three runs scored. Nine different Lions recorded at least one hit.
Gabriella Weiss continued her strong start to the season picking up her third win in as many games. Weiss went all seven innings allowing only two runs on seven hits while striking out one.
Game 2: L, 2-0
The game was dominated by the pitching staff of both teams. There were only eight combined hits between the two sides. The Fightin' Engineers picked up a one run in both the sixth and seventh innings and that would make the difference.
Alexis Laboy got the start on the mound for Albright and went six strong innings. Laboy only allowed four hits and one run while also collecting a strikeout.
Caitlin Mahady and
Gabriella Weiss would combine out of the bullpen in the seventh to finish off the day.
Madison Lasko,
Slaydon Fisher and
Emilie Smith all collected one hit on the day for the Lions.
