Baseball Opens Weekend Series Against Stevenson

The Lions went south to begin their three game weekend series against MAC Commonwealth foe Stevenson. The Mustangs took game one, winning 8-5.

OWING MILLS, Md. – Baseball (12-19-1, 4-12 MAC Commonwealth) opened their second to last MAC Commonwealth series of the season on Friday afternoon traveling south to take on the Stevenson Mustangs (15-14, 6-10 MAC Commonwealth). Stevenson took game one by a final score of 8-5.

The Lions struck first in the top of the third inning plating the games first two runs. Nathan Golden led off the inning with a single and steal to put himself in scoring position. Michael Avino singled home Golden and was followed by Tyler Boccelli who reached base on a fielder's choice allowing Tommy Lewman to score from third.

Golden again led off the fifth inning with a hit which ultimately led to two more Lions runs. After a Lewman walk, Avino doubled to left center to score Golden and Lewman.

Avino's fourth RBI of the day came in the seventh inning to tie his career high. The run put Albright in front 5-4 but were unable to keep the Stevenson bats at bay as the Mustangs took an 8-5 lead heading into the top of the eighth inning.

The 8-5 score would hold until the games final out.

Avino and Lewman each finished with two hits. Lewman finished with three runs scored, scoring all three times he reached base.

Chris Gorla and Plyer Hunter were each credited with a hit. Gorla is currently at 94 career hits and is closing in on the 100-career hit milestone. Golden finished with two walks and two runs scored.
