FREDERICK, Md. – Baseball (17-21-1, 7-14 MAC Commonwealth) was looking to play spoiler on Sunday afternoon against Hood (16-22, 10-11 MAC Commonwealth) on the final day of the regular season within the Middle Atlantic Conference. In the end, Hood won 5-4 to claim the three seed in the upcoming playoffs.
Albright found themselves down 3-1 heading into the away half of the seventh inning. The Lions' first three batters of the inning all reached base. A
Chris Gorla single, a
Michael Avino walk and a
Luke Filliben single brought the Lions within one run at 3-2.
Plyer Hunter scored Avino on an RBI groundout to tie the game at three. Albright would take the lead on a
Tommy Lewman single scoring Hunter going in front 4-3.
Hood was able to find some magic in the bottom of the ninth inning to steal the game from the Lions and avoiding the sweep by Albright.
Anthony Knight went 3-4 with one RBI. Knight had three multi-hit games this week to raise his batting average to .378 for the entire season.
Christian Eckstein collected two hits while
Nathan Golden reached base twice and scored a run.
Avino did not record a hit today but is sitting on 93 career hits heading into his junior season for Albright. This season Lewman and Gorla each became members of the 100-hit club.
