READING, Pa. – Softball (14-16, 4-10 MAC Commonwealth) concluded their regular season on Sunday afternoon hosting Hood College (16-23-1, 5-9 MAC Commonwealth) on senior day. In what turned out to be two exciting games, the Blazers were able to win both ends of the double header.
Prior to the start of game one, the team took the time to honor their 2026 graduating class. The seniors are Kaitlin Aasheim and
Madison Lasko.
Game 1: L, 6-3
Hood scored the first six runs of the game, but the Lions would not go down without a fight.
Moving to the seventh inning, the Lions found themselves in a hole but started to chip away at the lead before Hood was able to close out game one.
Albright's first three batters of the seventh inning reached base to load the bases with no outs. A
Slaydon Fisher sacrifice fly followed by a
Katie Behler two run single plated three runs for the Lions.
Adriana Buonacore and Behler each had two hits in game, one combining for four of the teams eight total hits.
Gabriella Weiss pitched in relief and fared well overall, allowing only two runs in 3.2 innings of work collecting two strikeouts
Game 2: L, 11-9 (9 innings)
In game two, the teams combined for 20 runs on 34 hits putting it all on the line in both teams' final game of the season.
After three innings, Albright led 7-5, scoring at least two runs in each of the first three innings. Hood tied the game in the top of the seventh at 7-7 to send the game to extras.
The Blazers regained the lead in the top of the eighth (9-7) but the Lions had one more rally in them.
Riley Winchell doubled to lead off the inning and
Juliette Licata reached on an infield single to put two on with no one out. A double steal with Winchell and Licata allowed Winchell to score to bring the Lions within one.
Behler tied the game up on a single to right field, sending the game to one more extra frame. In the end, Hood scored two runs in the top of the ninth to win a thriller 11-9.
Licata, Buonacore, Behler, Fisher and Winchell all finished game two with two hits.
Grace Landante and Fisher each had two RBIs.
Fisher tied the single season doubles record this season with 14. For her career fisher has 24 doubles and sits just three doubles shy of setting the all-time doubles record heading into her senior season.
