READING, Pa. – Women's tennis beat York College 4-0 on Tuesday afternoon to advance to the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Commonwealth Championship. The appearance in the championship match will be the third straight for Albright.
Women's tennis entered playoffs as the two-time reining MAC Champions and now has the opportunity to make it three in a row. Albright will face the Messiah Falcons in the Championship match on Saturday, May 2 at Messiah. The time for the match is yet to be determined.
Over the past three years Albright has been nearly flawless in the postseason. Since their run started in 2023, the Lions are 22-2 against their opponents in the playoffs. Albright will look to become the first team to win three conference championships in a row within the Commonwealth since Elizabethtown did so from 2012-2014.
Doubles play kicked off today's semifinals match with the Lions earning the doubles team point in the end.
Albright went with different doubles pairings than normal, but the result ended the same as the Lions have grown accustomed to.
Nadia Margaritov and
Elicia Aponte won 6-0 in #3 doubles and was followed by
Alaina Smith and
Daniela Diez who won 6-2 in #2 doubles.
Margaritov won handily in #1 singles making her playoff debut for Albright. The first-year Lion won 6-1, 6-0 to secure the first singles team point.
Diez was next to finish as she won 6-1, 6-2 in #6 singles also making her playoff debut this afternoon.
Michelle Timothy ended the match for the Lions winning 6-0, 6-2 in #2 singles to advance Albright to the MAC Commonwealth Championship match.
