GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – Field Hockey (1-3) traveled for their third straight game on the road to take on the Gwynedd Mercy Griffins. In a low scoring affair, a first quarter goal from the Lions was enough to propel them to victory in a 1-0 shutout.
Charissa Yerger found the back of the net just four minutes into the game in what was her first career collegiate goal. Yerger has spent the last two seasons rotating as a midfielder and forward and finally broke through with a goal on her first shot of the season.
Another milestone came on Yerger's goal in the form of
Aniek Oostendorp's first collegiate assist. The first-year forward now has accounted for three points in four games this season.
Despite the score the Lions had no shortage of shot attempts and finished with 14 compared to the Griffins' 11.
McKena Cox led all players with five shots on goal.
Delana Dunkelberger picked up both her first career win and shutout in just her second career start making a career best nine saves.
"I am really proud of how the team came out today and fought hard for 60 minutes," head coach Co said. "I also want to give a huge shoutout to D [Dunkelberger], who made some incredible saves and got her first shutout win today and Charissa for scoring her first career goal!"
