READING, Pa. – Field Hockey (0-1) took the field for the first time this season against Penn State Harrisburg (1-0). Defense was heavily present from both sides as the visiting Nittany Lions would leave with a 2-0 victory.
The Nittany Lions' first goal of the game came in the sixth minute of play off a penalty corner before neither side would be able to find the back of the net again until the final minutes.
Delana Dunkelberger made eight saves in her first collegiate game for the Lions including a number of additional clutch dives and breakups to deny Harrisburg additional scoring chances.
A prime scoring chance for the Lions came midway through the second period from
Kalli Kunkle that missed just wide of the net off a setup pass from
Lillian Tuffy off a penalty corner.
As a team the Lions put together a team-first stellar defensive effort against a high-powered Harrisburg offense which included a defensive save from
Jessica Butz.
