Field Hockey Secures Road Win against William Paterson

The Lions won behind a season best four goals against the Pioneers.

WAYNE, N.J. – Field Hockey (2-7) began a two game road trip with the William Paterson Pioneers (1-7). The Lions fought hard together for four quarters and were rewarded with a gutsy 4-2 victory.

After the Pioneers struck first and early, Bobbie Van Oordt accounted for the game's next two goal's coming in the 28thand 31st minute of play. Van Oordt put up five shots, all on goal, and was a force for the Lions off the bench.

The Lions would find the back of the net for a second time in the third quarter with McKena Cox netting a goal off a pass from Aniek Oostendorp. Cox finished with four shots of her own on a night where the Lions tallied 21 total.

With the Pioneers getting one back in the 40th minute, Oostendorp came through once more with a goal in the 54th minute to put the Lions all the way back in the driver's seat.

"I am really proud of how the team played today. So many of them stepped up and made some adjustments that helped them be really successful today," said Coach Co. I am also proud of the fact that even though we got scored on first, we battled to get back in the game instead of hanging our heads. A huge shoutout to Bobbie, who brought such spark and energy to the front line and was able to capitalize twice, and also Kena who was a consistent presence from start to finish and was also able to put one away!"

Claire Carrington started in goal for the Lions and earned the first collegiate win of her career.
