Shanin Bennefield will begin his third season with the Albright football program in 2019. Bennefield will serve as the wide receivers coach for the second-straight season after being the running backs coach in 2017.
In 2018, Bennefield helped coach wide receiver Kyle Dickerson to All-MAC first team honors in addition to D3football.com All-East Region third team honors, and All-ECAC Second Team honors.
Bennefield was on an Albright coaching staff last season that helped lead the Lions to an 8-3 overall record, and a seventh straight year where the Lions earned a postseason berth.
Before Albright, Bennefield coached at South Charleston High School, where he primarily worked with outside linebackers and wide receivers. He also assisted in defensive preparation by breaking down film prior to game day.
Bennefield enjoyed a four-year playing career at West Virginia State. As a wide receiver,
Bennefield recorded 112 receptions for 1,288 yards and eight touchdowns. Bennefield was voted Offensive Player of the Year by his coaches and teammates in 2012, and named Pre-Season All-MEC First Team the following year.
Bennefield earned a bachelor’s degree in Human Performance with a focus on Sports Studies from West Virginia State.
A native of Newark, DE., Bennefield excelled at Newark High School. He was a three-year varsity athlete as well as team captain in his senior season. Bennefield was named All-Conference Honorable Mention after finishing his junior year ranked third in the state in receptions and touchdowns.
