Steve Barroso enters his second season on the Albright coaching staff in 2017 after a two-year career playing for the Lions. Barroso will serve as the program's linebackers coach.
Barroso was part of a coaching staff that helped lead Albright to a MAC-Centennial Bowl Championship title in 2016 as the Lions posted an 8-3 overall record.
Barroso capped his career at Albright in 2015 by helping lead the Lions to the Middle Atlantic Conference championship and a berth in the second round of the NCAA playoffs. He started all 12 games at linebacker and led the Lions in tackles and interceptions. He finished the season with 76 tackles, six interceptions, 9.0 tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks, five fumble recoveries, three forced fumbles and seven pass breakups.
He was named a Second Team All-American by USA College Football and also earned First Team All-ECAC South and First Team All-MAC honors. Barroso was named Second Team All-East Region by D3football.com and played in the Dream Bowl following the Lions season.
As a junior he was named Second Team All-MAC after ranking second on the team with 86 tackles. He also totaled 14.0 tackles for loss, 6.0 sacks and intercepted two passes.
Barroso began his playing career at Monmouth before spending one year at Illinois State before transferring to Albright prior to the 2014 season.
A native of Toms River, N.J., Barroso starred at Toms River North High School. He was named First Team All-Shore and First Team All-Ocean County following his senior season.
Barroso earned his degree in criminology in the spring of 2016.
