Matt Chalupa

Chalupa is set to begin his eighth season as the Lions men's basketball top assistant coach in 2025-26. Chalupa is an integral part of the program helping the team to five postseason tournaments during his tenure. In 2024-25, Chalupa helped the team to a nine game win streak, all in conference play, on their way to the #1 seed in the MAC Commonwealth playoffs. Addittionally, Chalupa helped guide Eric Chamberlain to All-MAC First Team honors and Phanique Dupree to MAC Commonwealth Defensive Player of the Year honors and a spot on the conferences Second Team. 
Matt Chalupa enters his seventh season as a member of the Albright College men’s basketball coaching staff in 2024-25. During his time on staff, the Lions have made the MAC Commonwealth postseason tournament four out of six years, and won the conference championship in 2021.

In the 2022-23 season, coach Chalupa was instrumental in seeing guard Eric Chamberlain be named the MAC Commonwealth Defensive Player of the Year. The Defensive Player of the Year honor is the first in Albright's program history. In 2023-24, Chamberlain received MAC Commonwealth Honorable Mention honors.

During the 2021-22 season Chalupa assisted in leading the Lions back to the MAC Commonwealth tournament after winning the Commonwealth the season prior. Chalupa was a major factor in helping Guard Sidney Brown achieve All-MAC Commonwealth second team honors.  

In 2020-21, Chalupa assisted the Lions through a 10-game shortened season due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, and helped the team win the 2021 MAC Commonwealth Championship. Chalupa helped coach three players in Sam Majekodunmi, Corey Simmons, and Jordan Guerrero to earn All-MAC Commonwealth Honors, and one (Simmons) to earn D3hoops.com All-Mid-Atlantic Region honors.

During the 2019-20 season, Chalupa helped coach the team to its fourth-straight appearance in the MAC Commonwealth Tournament, and a clinching a berth in the ECAC Tournament for the first time since the 2012-13 season with a 16-12 overall record. 

In his first season on the staff in 2018-19, the Lions qualified for the MAC Commonwealth Tournament and advanced to the semifinals. 

Chalupa came to Albright after spending two seasons as an assistant coach at Mount Saint Mary College.
 
In the 2017-18 season, at Mount Saint Mary, Chalupa helped the Knights to a 13-13 overall record and a 13-7 record in the Skyline Conference. The Knights also made their first appearance in the Skyline Conference Tournament since the 2013-14 season. In his two seasons with the Knights, Chalupa served as the recruiting coordinator for the team as well as the defensive coordinator. The Knights finished 1st and 4th in scoring defense for the Skyline Conference in his two years on the staff.
 
Before coaching at Mount Saint Mary, Chalupa was an assistant coach for the Reno Bighorns, a NBA D-League team for the 2015-16 season. Chalupa put together a 15-3 scout record for the Bighorns and helped lead the team to a 33-17 record and the top seed in the Western Conference. 

As a player in college, Chalupa was a four-year letter winner, four-time All-Academic selection, and served as team captain his senior year at Grinnell College in Iowa. He also began his collegiate coaching career at Grinnell as an assistant coach for the 2014-15 season where he coordinated recruiting as well.
