Box Score
READING, Pa. - Even with a #Kaitlyn Pietrusewicz# goal in the fourth minute of the match, the Albright Field Hockey team (5-11) was unable to hang on as DeSales University (6-9) recorded two unanswered scores to take a 2-1 non-conference win Friday evening at Shirk Stadium.
Battling cold and rainy conditions the red and white played an extremely tough game against a very tough opponent. Pietrusewicz's goal which was the first of her career at Albright came off of a #Beth Moran# pass that skipped right by the Bulldogs' defense.
Following the go-ahead goal from the freshman forward, the Bulldogs netted their first score of the night less than two minutes later. Earning the equalizer for DeSales was Amy Pulcini, her fifth of the year.
From there the score would remain deadlocked at 1-1 through the remainder of the first half. Albright led the half in shots with four, while DeSales managed three. In penalty corners it was the Bulldogs leading the first 35 minutes of play with four opportunities as compared to Albright's one.
After the halftime break the offensive stalemate continued until the 51st minute when DeSale's Kelsey Strowhouer scored the game winner off of a Jamie Matthews pass. Matthews ended the contest assisting both Bulldogs' goals.
In the cage, sophomore netminder #Kaitlyn Johnstone# tallied four saves in the match and faced a combined 10 shots from the Bulldogs. Albright's offense closed out Friday's match with 10 shots of their own, and DeSales goalie Victoria DelToro came up with two stops.
Field Hockey returns to action on Wednesday when they host Arcadia University at 7 p.m. in Shirk Stadium in a Commonwealth Conference match.
