READING, Pa. - Looking to give the senior members a final victory the Albright Field Hockey team hosted Alvernia University in their final Commonwealth Conference game of the 2009 season, Tuesday evening at Shirk Stadium. Despite their best efforts, the visiting Crusaders managed to net the games only goal earning the 1-0 conference win over the Lady Lions.
The lone score by Alvernia came in the 13th minute of the second half when Katy Eby dribbled the ball through the Lions defense and crossed it over to Jessica Beisswanger for the goal. Combined the Crusaders posted nine shots in Tuesday's game, while Albright tallied five, four of which were on goal.
In the cage for the red and white was sophomore #Kaitlyn Johnstone# who earned five saves, while Alvernia netminder Abby Eby totaled four saves of her own to earn the shutout.
The two teams were evenly matched throughout the contest, both producing solid offensive chances. Defensively Albright and Alvernia found themselves in a stalemate, but unfortunately it was the Crusaders that managed to slip through.
Junior scoring sensation #Gia Boscola# led Albright with three shots, two of which were on goal. Boscola closed out the year with a career best 12 goals and four assists. Sophomore #Caitlin Feldman# posted one shot of her own in the season finale. Feldman ended her second season with the red and white with a career best four goals and eight assists.
Prior to the start of Tuesday's contest, the Lady Lions paid tribute to their three senior members, #Kayla Waldrup#, #Kelly Zepp#, and #Emily Hutchinson#.
Field Hockey closed out their 2009 campaign with an overall record of 6-13, 2-5 in the Commonwealth Conference.
