Swimming Downs Dutchmen in Conference Opener

READING, Pa. - The Albright Swim teams got their conference schedule off to a great start as they both defeated Lebanon Valley College Tuesday evening at the Albright Natatorium. The victories both marked the first for the Lions as they men's team handed Lebanon Valley a 104-74 decision while the women picked up a 106-87 win over the Dutchmen.

Overall, the red and white dominated the water from start to finish as they now stand at 1-0 in the Middle Atlantic Conference. Both squads recorded nine first place finishes respectively in only their second meet of the season.

For the men, the evening got off to a great start as they took the top-3 finishes in the 200 medley relay. From there, #Eric Kramer# took the top finish in the 1,000 free (10:32.52), while #Matt Bauer# finished in second place with a 10:59.32 finish.

#Zach McElheny# picked up a first place finish in the 200 free with a time of 1:56.58, and #Jordan Hash# took the quick 50 free heat with a time of 23.60. In the 200 IM senior #Jack Kubacki# posted a time of 2:08.07 to win his first race of the year. #Matt O'Neill# trailed his teammate by only four seconds to finish in second place.

Newcomer #Tim Pierce# earned the Lions top time in the 100 fly with a time of 57.99. Kramer returned to the water in the 100 free and took first for the second time. #Adam Kurtz# and McElheny recorded back-to-back victories to close out the night for the Lions.

Switching over the women's competition, the Lady Lions also earned a first place finish in the 200 medley with a time of 2:03.14. Giving the red and white the relay win was #Amanda Fisher#, #Katy Oeste#, #Jill Franc#, and #Aimee Snyder#.

#Rebecca Woskoff# then brought home the team's first individual top finish with a 12:30.03 time in the 1,000 free open. Freshman #Madison Hauk# earned her third victory of the season taking first place in the 20 free. #Katy Oeste# continued Albright's winning ways in the 50 free with a time of 26.02 in the 50 free.

Albright would earn five more victories before closing out Tuesday's meet with the Dutchmen. Both teams will return to the water this Saturday when they travel to Lycoming College for a noon conference meet.
