WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Looking to pick up their second straight conference win of the new season, the Lions competed against Lycoming College Saturday afternoon. On the men's side, the red and white earned a solid 108-88 victory over the host Warriors. Unfortunately, the women dropped an extremely close 96.5-108.5 decision to Lycoming.
Combined the Lions recorded an impressive 14 first place victories respectively. The men's team swam away with nine first place victories to sweep the conference meet. For the women's team
Allie Fies (200 free, 100 free) and
Aimee Snyder (200 IM, 200 back) each recorded two victories, while
Kelly Williams (1,000 free) picked up another top finish. Snyder's time of 2:19.84 in the 200 IM was a personal best, and Williams's time of 2:27.15 in the 200 fly was also a personal best for the junior.
On the men's side, junior
Eric Kramer proved to be the team's only repeat winner as six other swimmers each returned home with a victory. Kramer's first place finishes came in the 1,000 free and 100 free. The men's team once again started their afternoon off on a great foot placing first in the 200 medley relay.
That victory then set the trend for the rest of the afternoon, as the Lions continued to earn victory after victory to take their second straight conference meet of the year. Also touching the wall first in Saturday's meet was
Matt Bauer (200 free), Ryan Habel (50 free),
Jack Kubacki (200 IM), Matt O'Neill (200 fly),
Adam Kurtz (200 back), and
Zach McElheny (500 free).
Switching over to the women's meet, the Lady Lions posted a second and fifth place finishes in the 200 medley relay to start off their day. They then picked up back-to-back first place finishes from Williams and Fies. Lycoming earned their first individual victory of the afternoon in 50 free.
With another top finish by Snyder the Lions had a solid lead over their competition. However, Lycoming would go on to take four more heats, which included a first and second place finish in the 200 fly.
Those four victories pushed the Warriors over the top and marked the first conference loss for the Lady Lions in over a year.
Swimming will return to action on Saturday, November 7th when they host Widener University at 2 p.m. in the Natatorium.
