READING, Pa. - The Albright Men's Basketball team (3-0) claimed their third straight win of the 2009-10 season Tuesday evening defeating the visiting Monarchs of King's College (0-4) by the final score of 73-45 in the Bollman Center.
Fueling the Lions non-conference win was an amazing 15-0 run in the first six minutes of Tuesday's non-conference game. Amongst the Lions leading performers was junior
Zac Shaeffer who 4-for-10 from the field, 2-for-5 from 3-point range, and a perfect 5-for-5 from the line. The Wyndham Reading Tip-Off tournament MVP also totaled four boards, two assists, and two steals in 28 minutes of playing time.
Big man
Derek Hall finished second on the team in scoring with 12 points after shooting 4-for-7 from the field, 1-for-2 from behind the arc, and 3-for-4 at the free throw line. Hall also finished second on the team in rebounds with five boards along with Shane Irwin.
Senior forward
Justin Plummer led the contest with six rebounds, and also managed eight points, two assists, one block and two steals.
The Monarchs' Nick Reisig led the team with 13 points on the night and was the team's only double-figure scorer. Mike McCready was next in line with eight points and had four boards as well. King's leading scorer Kevin Conroy who was averaging over 21 points per game going into Wednesday's contest was held to just three points on the night after getting into foul trouble early in the game.
Fouls was the one consistency of Tuesday's night match-up. Combined Albright and King's were whistled for a total of 38 fouls respectively. Albright finished the night 11-for-13 from the give me line, while King's made 18 of their 25 trips to the strip.
After the Lions scoring spree ended in the 14th minute on a Reisig three pointer, Albright dominated on both sides of the court. Through the first 10 minutes of play, the Monarchs were held to a mere seven points, while the red and white put up 24 of their own.
Through the first half, Albright held a 20 point lead at three different times before entering the locker room at halftime.
That large lead played a major factor in the second half, as King's tried desperately to make a huge comeback in the opening minutes. However their efforts proved too little too late as Albright never once surrendered their double-figure lead throughout the final 20 minutes of play.
Men's Basketball will return to action on Wednesday, December 2nd when they travel to Messiah College for an 8 p.m. Commonwealth Conference game.
