Women's Basketball Falls to Ospreys, 69-53

POMONA, NJ - Led by Che'Na Thompson's game high 16 points, the Ospreys of Richard Stockton College (3-1) defeated the Lady Lions (2-2) by the final score of 69-53 Wednesday evening at the Stockton Sports Center.

Joining Thompson on offense was LaTonya Oliver who totaled 14 points, while also managing 10 rebounds for the games only double-double. Aspen Price-Perry was the third and final Osprey to finish in double figures with 12 points against the red and white.

The Lady Lions also totaled three double figure scorers in Wednesday's non-conference game. Sophomore transfer Becca Pollack went 5-for-10 from the floor and 2-for-2 from the give me line to finish the night with a team high 12 points. Junior Jessica McGinness and senior Mallory Olsheski each tallied 11 points. Olsheski also totaled a team best eight boards and two blocks.

From the start of Wednesday's contest, the host Osprey's controlled the scoreboard. Albright was only able to even the score once in the opening minutes, before Stockton took over on offense. Through the first five minutes, the red and white managed to keep it close never trailing the Osprey's by more than six. However after the 14 minute mark, Stockton gained some breathing room taking at the time their largest lead of the night (9 pts.).

Albright did cut their lead back down to four with about 9:30 half left to play with a quick 5-0 run. Unfortunately, the Lions run was not enough as Stockton quickly took over jumping out to their first double-figure lead of the night with about five minutes to play in the half. The first half ended with the Osprey's holding a seven point lead on the board as both teams enter their locker rooms (39-32).

After the intermission, Stockton continued to roll on both sides of the court jumping out to a nine point lead in the first five minutes. They then made it a 20 point game on a 17-0 run. Olsheski ended the Lady Lions scoring drought at the halfway mark on a lay-up which made it 60-42.

Not faltering for a moment, the Osprey's continued to hold onto their substantial lead through the final 10 minutes of the contest, eventually ending the night with 16 point lead and the win.

Women's Basketball returns to action on Wednesday, December 2nd when they travel to Messiah College for their first Commonwealth Conference game of the 2009 season. Start time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
