Swimming Cruises to Non-Conference Win

READING, Pa. - The Albright Swim teams returned to the Natatorium for their first home meet in over a month Saturday afternoon. Coming off a great weekend at the Swarthmore College Invitational, both teams defeated the visiting Cavaliers of Cabrini College in dominant fashion, with the men's team taking a 133-77 victory while the women took a 135-110 win.

On the women's side of Saturday's non-conference meet, the Lady Lions recorded first place finishes in every single heat starting with the 200 medley relay. The team of Amanda Fisher, Katy Oeste, Madison Hauk, and Aimee Snyder led the event from start to finish and ended with a time of 1:58.83.

From there Alyce Mancini got the individual heats started off on a great note placing first in the 1,000 free event with a time of 12:18.06. Allie Fies was next in line to swim away with a first place finish in the 200 free (2:03.79). She later claimed another top mark in the 100 free with a time of 55.93, which was a mere second more than her all-time personal best.

Hauk added two more first place finishes to her resume in the 50 back (31.30) and in the 50 fly (28.46). In her first individual heat of the day, Oeste picked up a close win in the 50 breast beating out teammate Kari Keller by less than a second. Oeste then took first place in the 100 breast with a time of 1:12.13.

Snyder earned her first individual victory of the day in the 100 fly with a time of 1:04.53. Lauren Onusko kept the Lady Lions winning ways alive with a top time in the 50 free (26.27).

Also picking up a pair of first place finishes was Sarah Noonan in the 100 back (1:09.99) and the 200 IM (2:25.53).

For the men's team the Lions took home first place wins in every event except one, which was decided by .01 of a second. The 200 medley relay team of Sean Zajdel, Jack Kubacki, Adam Kurtz, and AJ Paulson dominated the water as they turned in a time of 1:44.98.

Matt O'Neill made some waves with a dominant 11:11.30 time in the 1,000 free. Matt Bauer was another top finisher for Albright. In the 200 free the freshman recorded a new personal best with a time of 1:53.50 which was .68 less than his original best.

Moving into the very quick 50 back Zajdel swam away with a first place win with a time of 27.19. He later took first in the 100 back with a time of 58.26. In the 50 breast Kubacki led the team with a time of 29.94, while Zach McElheny dominated the 100 fly with a time of 58.41.

Eric Kramer competed in the 50 free to claim his only top time of the day with a 22.49 finish. Jordan Hash and Adam Kurtz each touched the wall first in their events and Chris Sheerer closed out the afternoon individual heats with a top finish in the 200 IM.

Swimming will now pack their bags for the winter training trip to Puerto Rico which will begin on December 26th. The Lions will return to Reading on January 1st.
