READING, Pa. - With less than two minutes to go in the second overtime period junior #Gia Boscola# got an open shot that she blasted into the back of the cage to give the Lady Lions a 1-0 season opening victory Tuesday evening at Shirk Stadium.

Boscola's goal which was netted in the 98th minute was her sixth shot on goal of the night. Her five other chances just missed the cage, and were stopped dead by Cedar Crest goalie Rachel Orlen. The red and white peppered the Falcons defense throughout regulation, but were unable to capitalize.

In the first 70 minutes of action, the Lady Lions outshot their opponent 10-2. They then tacked on eight more shots in the overtime periods to close out the night with an 18-5 shot advantage. Albright also dominated in penalty corners as well totaling 12 to Cedar Crest's seven.

Even with all of these offensive numbers the Lions were unable to penetrate a solid Falcon's defense. Orlen closed out the night with 11 saves, while Albright's #Kaitlyn Johnstone# totaled two saves of her own. 

Albright had their chances throughout the night, but with just moments left before the shootout, Boscola was able to get open at the top of the arc. She then drove the ball right past the defense, and before anyone knew what happened the officials were signaling the end of the contest.

Field Hockey returns to action on Thursday when they travel to the University of Scranton for 7 p.m. non-conference game.
