READING, Pa. - Looking to pull off one of the biggest upsets in program history, the Lady Lions (4-6/1-1 Commonwealth) faced off against nationally ranked Lebanon Valley College (7-1/2-0 Commonwealth) Tuesday afternoon at Shirk Stadium.
The Dutchmen who entered the contest ranked seventh in Division III Field Hockey according to the most recent National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Coaches Poll defeated Albright by the final score of 6-1. The win marked the 500th victory for the Lebanon Valley Field Hockey program since its inception in 1933.
Despite the five goal deficit the Lady Lions truly gave it everything they had Tuesday afternoon. Through the first 35 minutes of play the red and white were right there with the Dutchmen trailing only by one goal.
It was in the second half, that the Dutchmen gained some breathing room and the victory scoring four more times. Netting the lone goal for the Lions was the dynamic duo of #Caitlin Feldman# and #Gia Boscola#.
The two connected in the 23rd minute of the match to make it 2-1 in favor of the visitors. Boscola who netted the Lions only goal, now stands at nine goals on the season, while Feldman has a career best six assists.
Sophomore goalie #Kaitlyn Johnstone# and junior defender #Briana Taylor# played a major part in keeping the Dutchmen off the scoreboard throughout the first half. On the day Johnstone combined for a season high 12 saves. Lebanon Valley led the game in total shots with 22, while Albright tallied seven of their own.
Field Hockey returns to action on Thursday when they host York College (PA) at 4:30 p.m. in Shirk Stadium.
