READING, Pa. - It was another record setting night for the Lions as they finally made their return to their home waters Tuesday evening. The red and white coming off a huge win over the weekend dominated the Blue Jays of Elizabethtown College to pick-up a pair of victories. The men's team defeated the Blue Jays 114-40 and the women's team defeated Etown 107-86.
However those two wins were truly over shadowed by the two amazing performances by
Chris Sheerer and
Eric Kramer. Sheerer set the new Natatorium record in the 400 IM with a time of 4:19.73, and Kramer set the new record in the 500 free with a time of 4:49.74.
The previous 400 IM record was set by Sheerer in 2008, while Kramer's new time broke Matt Stumhofer's record which he set in 2003 with a time of 4:52.07.
It was nearly a clean sweep for the Lions as they continue to prepare for the 2010 Middle Atlantic Conference Championship meet. To start off the evening the men's and women's 400 medley relay teams both touched the wall first to claim 11 points each.
In the 1,000 free
Matt Bauer took first for the men's side, while
Emily Weaver placed second in the event with a time of 12:56.71 which was a new personal best for the freshman.
Kramer actually claimed his first win of the night in the 200 free with a time of 1:46.78, and for the Lady Lions it was
Madison Hauk who took first for her team with a time of 2:04.35.
From there Albright would combine for 13 more wins respectively as they cruised to their fifth straight win of the year.
Amongst the team's top finishers were
Adam Kurtz in the 200 fly (2:09.47), Sheerer in the 200 back (2:01.40),
Jack Kubacki in the 200 breast (2:22.48),
Allie Fies in the 50 free (26.02),
Aimee Snyder in the 400 IM (4:54.90),
Kelly Williams in the 200 fly (2:25.93),
Katy Oeste in the 200 free (57.11),
Sarah Noonan in the 200 back (2:26.54), and Hauk in the 200 breast (2:37.90).
Both 400 free relay teams closed out their respective meets with solid first place finishes. The men's team posted a time of 3:28.24, while the women's team ended their heat with a time of 3:48.56.
Swimming returns to the water for their final meet of the season on Saturday, January 30 when they host Susquehanna University at 2 p.m. on senior day.
