READING, Pa. - Led by Andrea Hoover's 19 second half points, the first place Dutchmen (16-1/7-0 CC) were able to hold off Women's Basketball (6-10/2-5 CC) and take a 62-54 conference win Saturday afternoon in the Bollman Center.
The junior shooter was 6-for-12 from the field, which included two three-point baskets, and was 5-for-6 from the line.
For the Lady Lions, junior
Jessica McGinness recorded a new season high of 24 points Saturday afternoon. The Norristown native shot 50% from the field (9-18) and from three-point range (3-6). At the free throw line McGinness was a perfect 3-for-3 and nearly walked away with a double-double totaling seven rebounds as well.
Sophomore
Becca Pollack was also another top performer for the red and white as she led the game in rebounds with 11 while also tallying four points. Defensively,
Rose Williamson played extremely hard off the bench recording a game-high three blocks.
However the killer for the red and white in Saturday's match-up was their 26 turnovers, which allowed the Dutchmen to keep the momentum in their favor. Albright did lead the contest in all offensive categories as they shot 35.1% from the field, 27.8% from three-point land, and 90.0% from the line.
Through the first half of play, Albright kept their opponents close never allowing Lebanon Valley to gain more than a six point lead. The two teams exchanged control of the lead a total of five times.
Albright did gain its largest lead of the afternoon in the closing minute of the opening half when freshman
Kari Ludy made back-to-back free throws to give her team a 31-27 lead going into the locker room.
After the halftime break, the Lady Lions were able to maintain their lead for only a short while as turnovers gave the Dutchmen the window they needed to get back into the game.
Down but not out Albright did manage to cut Lebanon Valley's lead which stood at nine at the 10:47 mark down to two points less than two minutes later. Helping to lead the Albright resurgence was McGinness and
Rory Yerkes.
Unfortunately their efforts were not enough as the Dutchmen managed to hang on and walk away with the win.
Women's Basketball returns to action on Wednesday when they host DeSales University in a non-conference game scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
