Warriors Cool Off Red Hot Lions in Conference Action

Box Score

READING, Pa. - Led by Mike Bradley's double-double of 17 points and 14 rebounds the Warriors of Lycoming College (11-2/2-1 Commonwealth) ended Albright's (11-2/2-1 Commonwealth) five-game win streak Saturday afternoon in the Bollman Center with a 74-69 conference win.

Bradley who was 4-for-9 from the field proved to be most effective from the free-throw line going 9-for-14. Of his 14 boards, 12 were recorded on the defensive side of the ball. Leading the Warriors offense in Saturday's conference win was Eric Anthony. The guard totaled 19 points in the contest with 6-for-13 performance from the floor, 3-for-5 showing from behind the arc, and 4-for-5 outing at the free throw line. Anthony also had five boards and two assists in 31 minutes of playing time.

For the Lions Zac Shaeffer despite being held to just one three point basket all game totaled a team best 12 points. His shooting partner Matt Ashcroft also scored a team best 12 points, and led the Lions with nine rebounds. Combined Shaeffer and Ashcroft were just 3-for-17 from three point range. From the field the two juniors were 7-for-31 and 7-of-12 from the free throw line.

Proving to be the major downfall of Albright was their inability to make the clutch free throws throughout Saturday's contest. As a team, the red and white were 19-of-36 (52.8%) from the line. For the visiting Warriors, their showing at the free throw line was just a little better than Albright's shooting 64.7% (22-34).

However the true difference maker in Saturday's contest was Lycoming's 18 made free throws in the final 10 minutes of the second half. Those crucial points gave the Warriors the slim edge they needed to hand Albright their first loss in almost a month.

Saturday's contest got off to a rocky start for the red and white falling into a 7-0 hole in the first three minutes of the contest. Once Albright got on the board it only took the Lions two minutes to cut Lycoming's lead to one.

The Warriors managed to hang on however, and eventually extended their lead to 10 with 5:30 left in the opening half. Albright tried to mount a comeback but was just unable to find that offensive spark.

Following the halftime break Lycoming wasted little time again jumping out to a double-figure lead. Down but certainly not out, the Lions clawed their way back to make it a three point game around the midway point and in the final minutes of the half.

Unfortunately that would be the closest Albright would ever come to Lycoming's lead as the Warriors managed to hold on and take the win.

Men's Basketball returns to action next Wednesday when they travel to Widener University for an 8 p.m. Commonwealth Conference game.
