Swimming Rips Through Lycoming in Conference Meet

READING, Pa. - In their 2010 home debut, the Albright swim teams made quick work of Lycoming College Saturday afternoon in the Natatorium. On the men's side the Lions 121-76 victory, while on the women's side the Lady Lions defeated the conference rivals 121-82.

Saturday's meet got off to a great start for both teams as Albright swept the 200 medley relay. For the men, Albright placed first, second, and fourth in the opening relay event. The women's team took second and fourth to start off the afternoon

Moving into individual competition Kelly Williams swam away with a first place finish in the 1,000 free with a time of 11:48.77. Junior Joe Deighan also swam his way to a first place finish in the 1,000 free as the Wyomissing native recorded a final time of 10:28.36.

From there the Lions would continue their dominance as they recorded 12 straight first place finishes. In the 200 free Allie Fies recorded a time of 2:01.44, while her male counterpart Adam Kurtz recorded a time of 1:53.16, which was less than a second off his all-time best in the event.

In only her third collegiate meet, Tricia Janowiak had another solid performance as earned the top time in the 50 free. Eric Kramer proved dominant yet again in the 50 free as he finished with a time of 22.35.

The 200 IM belonged to Aimee Snyder (2:17.49) and Steve Thomas (2:07.60). From there fans saw Katy Oeste and Kurtz both take first in the 100 free. Zach McElheny recorded his first top finish in the Natatorium in the 100 fly (58.92). Madi Hauk was solid yet again in the 200 fly as she recorded a time of 2:23.05, which was .22 of a second off her personal best.

Snyder and Fies both returned to the water to take first in the 200 back and the 500 free respectively. In her final individual event Hauk took second in the 200 breast, while Dan Cahill also recorded a second placed finish in the 100 back.

Kramer ended his afternoon with a first place time of 4:59.13 in the 500 free, while Matt Bauer shaved nearly two seconds off his personal best in the 100 breast.

Swimming returns to action next Saturday when they travel to Widener University for a 1 p.m. conference meet.
