Meet Results
READING, Pa. - Back in their home waters, the Albright men's and women's swim teams defeated Arcadia University Saturday afternoon to claim their third conference wins of the year. The men's team handed the Knights a 112-66 loss, while the women's team cruised past Arcadia 113-80.
On the men's side, the Lions swam away with nine first place finishes. For the women's team their afternoon was paced by 10 first place finishes. Each Arcadia team recorded one first place finish on Saturday.
The Lions afternoon got off to a great start with back-to-back wins in the 200 medley relay. The men's team (1:47.38) was led by
Joe Deighan,
Zach McElheny,
Tim Pierce, and
Alex Zernechel. For the women's team (2:01.96), their first victory was the result of an
Aimee Snyder,
Emily Summers,
Kelly Williams, and
Amanda Fisher solid performance.
From there it was smooth sailing for the red and white as
Sean Spellacy picked up his first win of the day in the 1,000 yard free with a time of 10:53.77. Also making waves in the 1,000 free was
Connor Unger, who recorded a new career-best time of 12:01.99 in the event.
Katy Oeste recorded her first of two first place finishes in the 200 free (2:05.24). Also competing in the 20 free was
Alyce Mancini who shaved 0.79 seconds off her personal best to finish the heat in third place with a time of 2:14.48.
Freshman
Mike McBride recorded his first career time in the 200 free (1:57.41), while sophomore
Adam Kurtz powered his way to a time of 23.17 in the 50 free. After that Deighan swam away with a new career best in the 200 IM (2:02.30). Pierce recorded the Lions next top finish in the 100 fly (57.09).
In his only individual heat on Saturday, senior
Eric Kramer swam away with a victory in the 100 free (48.69). Kurtz returned to the water to earn his second win in the 100 back (57.63), while
Matt Bauer recorded the final individual first place finish for Albright in the 500 free (5:09.78).
Back on the women's side of Saturday's meet,
Tricia Janowiak claimed another top finish in the 50 free, this time posting a final time of 25.59 seconds. Madi Hauk swam to a first place finish in the 200 IM with her time of 2:21.85.
Snyder continued to dominant, as she took first in the 100 fly with a time of 54.90. Senior
Allie Fies recorded a new personal best in the 100 free, as she recorded a time of 54.90.
Janowiak added her second, top finish with a win in the 100 back (1:02.85). Hauk also won her second event on Saturday, with the top time in the 500 free. Her time of 5:36.83 marked a new personal best for the sophomore.
Oeste's final individual win came in the 100 breast, as she swam to a new personal best of 1:10.12. The 200 free relay teams sealed the wins for both Lion squads as the men's team posted a time of 1:36.42 and the women a time of 1:50.77.
Swimming returns to action next Saturday when they host Messiah College and Washington and Jefferson College in a tri-meet. Start time is scheduled for 2 p.m.
