Box Score
READING, Pa. - Led by Alex Velazquez's 18 points and 10 rebounds the visiting Crusaders of Alvernia University (14-8/8-4 CC) downed the host Lady Lions (8-15/4-9 CC) by the final score of 80-61 Tuesday evening in the Bollman Center.
From the field Velazquez was 6-for-10 and at the charity strip she was nearly perfect making six of her seven opportunities. Albright's offense was led by junior
Jessica McGinness who recorded a game-high 20 points in Tuesday's conference loss. Prior to the start of the contest, McGinness was honored for becoming only the 13th player in the history of the Women's Basketball program to break the 1,000 point mark.
Overall, the Norristown native shot 53% from the floor (8-15), 33% from three-point range (1-3), and 50% at the free throw line (3-6). She was also responsible for three rebounds, three steals, and one block in 31 minutes of action.
Also finishing in double-figures for the Lady Lions was senior
Amanda Medoro, who totaled 11 points on the night. Medoro also led the team in rebounding with five boards off the bench.
Along with Velazquez, the Crusaders had three other players finish in double-digits. Kelli McIntyre was second on the team in scoring with 13 points, followed by Allison Toczylowski with 12, and Angela Altimose with 11.
Tuesday's contest got off to a very rough start for Albright as they found themselves in a 17-0 hole at around the 13 minute mark. However once they were able to convert on their first basket, the Lady Lions quickly began to chop away at Alvernia's lead.
Unfortunately the large early deficit proved to much as the Crusaders held a substantial lead at the halftime break and throughout the second half.
Women's Basketball returns to action this Saturday when they host Messiah College at 2 p.m. Prior to the start of Saturday's contest the three senior members will be honored by the Women's Basketball program.
