Women's Basketball Defeats Elizabethtown, 73-68

Box Score

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – Jessica McGinness scored a game-high 22 points in leading the Albright Lions (7-13/3-7 CC) to a 73-68 Commonwealth Conference victory over the Elizabethtown Blue Jays (6-14/2-8 CC).

The junior guard was 8 of 18 from the field including five rebounds and four steals in leading her team to the win Sunday afternoon at Elizabethtown.

The Lions were efficient from the field, shooting 51% as a team, and even better on defense, holding the Blue Jays to a 38% clip. Included in that were five second half three-pointers for the red and white, making the difference in the final 20 minutes.

Marilynn McMonagle had two of those threes, contributing nine points off the bench. The Albright bench combined for 35 of the 73 points scored by the Lions, giving them effective minutes while the starters took a breather.

Four players scored in double figures for Elizabethtown including Kaity Snyder with a team-high 15. Megan Strohman (14), Courtney Kofeldt (13), and Ali Jury (10) also scored in double digits for the Blue Jays, but on this day, it would not be enough.

Despite the game being close throughout, Albright tied the game and eventually took the lead on back-to-back buckets by Rose Williamson, who finished with 8 points, at the 16 minute mark in the first half. The Lions would trade baskets with Elizabethtown for the remainder, but never relinquished the lead for the final 24 minutes.

Albright returns to action Wednesday February 10 at the Bollman Center against Arcadia University. This game will be the WBCA Pink Zone game for Breast Cancer Awareness and start time for the contest is 6 p.m.   All fans are encouraged to weark pink to Wednesday's game in support of breast cancer awareness.
