GRANTHAM, Pa. – It was another record setting weekend for the Albright Women's Track and Field team, as two program records fell Saturday afternoon at the Messiah College Invitational as the Lady Lions placed 11th and the men 10th overall. The two new records set at Messiah were the 3,000 meter Steeple Chase and the 4x800 meter relay.
Setting the new 3,000 meter Steeple Chase record was first year team member Kim Hummel with a time of 13:04.69 (5th out of 10), which was 24 seconds faster than the original. Hummel's record setting time also qualified her for the Middle Atlantic Conference Outdoor Championship meet as well.
Hummel would later join Danielle DiPietro, Gabby Stine, and Mary Frederick as part of the first ever 4x800 outdoor relay team to compete at Albright College. This new group of runners closed out Saturday's meet with a time of 11:06.39 to finish fourth overall in the event.
Overall the Lions had 11 new qualifiers for MAC's from both the men's and women's team. The newest qualifiers from the women's team were Stine in the 3,000 meter steeple chase (13:37.50), Adey Olaoluwa in the 100 meter dash (14.09), Meghan Loos (27.63) and Dezare Lyles (28.85) in the 200 meter dash, Mackenzie Miller in the 400 meter hurdles (76.52) and javelin (96-03), and DiPietro in the 800 meter run (2:39.04).
On the men's side the newest MAC qualifiers were Oshane Rennie in the 110 meter hurdles (16.23), Jordan Gilbert in the shot put (38-07.00), and Dane Canonico (110-11) and Robert Baldwin (114-04) in the hammer throw.
Along with the newest qualifiers for MAC's numerous personal bests fell, as the Lions continue to show tremendous improvement in every meet they compete in.
Miller recorded the team's top individual finish placing second in the triple jump with a final jump of 34-05.00 feet. The 4x100 relay team took third in the event, and it was Loos who placed fifth overall in the 200.
Anthony Pellegrino earned a seventh place finish in the hammer throw (129-11) and a fifth place finish in the shot put (44-06.00). Daniel Simmons took fourth in the long jump (19-08.25) and Justin Gewirtz placed second in the high jump (6-02.00).
Track and Field return to action next Friday when they compete in the Widener University Invitational, which is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
