READING, Pa. - Looking to end their season with back-to-back wins, the Lions (1-10) hosted the Bears of Ursinus College (10-11) in a non-conference match. Ursinus, who were winners of their last two matches defeated the red and white by the final score of 8-1 Thursday afternoon on the Albright College Tennis Courts.
Picking up the lone Albright victory was freshman #
Kenneth Ip#, who ended his first year with the Lions with a 5-5 record in singles play. Ip battled it out with Ursinus' Bennett McLaughlin. In the first set, Ip defeated McLaughlin 6-1. He would then would come back to tie the match in the second set, forcing a tie-breaker.
Ip would pull out the victory with a 7-5 decision to earn his fifth win of the year at the number singles spot. Prior to that match-up, Ursinus made quick work of the Lions in all three doubles matches, taking the first two by the score of 8-2, and the third by a forfeit.
At second singles #
Lee Fura# dropped a tough match to Kevin Dean by the scores of 6-2, 6-1. #
Jason Lefkoe# was also handed a tough loss at the third singles spot, falling 6-1, 6-1. Probably the toughest loss of the afternoon was at fourth singles, where #
Mike Callahan# was defeated 6-4 in both sets.
Ursinus would close out the afternoon with a 6-, 6-0 win at fifth singles, and a forfeit victory at the sixth singles spot.
The Lions will return to action this weekend when they take part in the Commonwealth Conference Individual Tournament.
