READING, Pa. - Led by #Katie Cooper# and #Lauren Panichelle# the Lady Lions (1-0) picked up a 2-1 win Thursday afternoon over the Nittany Lions of Penn State Berks (0-1) in their 2010 season opener.

Panichelle netted the game winning goal in the 87th minute after Cooper delivered a cross into the Nittany Lions goal box. Normally a defender Panichelle was able to pick up the loose ball in the box and push it to the left corner of the net to give her team the very late lead and the win.

Thursday's match as a whole was a back and forth battle as both teams looked to get their new season off to a great note. Penn State Berks led the match with 15 shots, 11 of which were on target. Albright responded with 10 shots of their, six of which were on goal.

Second team all-conference goalkeeper #Olivia Giuliano#, continued her strong play from a season ago totaling 10 saves on the afternoon. Her only letdown came in the 47th minute when the Nittany Lions Taylor Kreider scored on a header from an Ariel Fuentes corner kick.

Cooper who did not start Thursday's non-conference match came off the bench in a hurry. The New Jersey native led her team in shots and shots on goal, and actually netted the first goal of the day. With less than five minutes to play in the first half, Cooper was able to beat the goalkeeper Cassidy Dawson to left post.

That late first half goal, would give the Lady Lions some breathing room for only a few minutes. After surrendering the early second half goal the red and white began to pick up the intensity tallying five shots throughout the final half.

Luckily enough Panichelle was able to deliver for her team on her lone shot of the afternoon.

Women's Soccer returns to action on Saturday when they face New Jersey City University at FDU-Florham in Madison, NJ. Game time set for 3 p.m.
