Boscola and Defense Leads Field Hockey to OT Win

Box Score

IMMACULATA, Pa. - After netting the Lady Lions first goal of the season in the 14th minute of the first half, senior forward #Gia Boscola# connected with #Caitlin Feldman# in the 71st minute to push Albright (1-2) to 2-1 overtime victory over Immaculata University (0-3), Wednesday afternoon at Draper Walsh Stadium.

The victory is not only the team's first, but also marked the first victory at Albright for first-year head coach Meg Monahan. Helping out Boscola's first goal of the game was freshman #Bernadette Baron#, who came off the bench for the red and white.

After Boscola netted the go-ahead score, the Lady Lions defense did their part holding the Mighty Macs scoreless through the remainder of the first half. With just one save in the first half by freshman #Marguerite DeLucas# the red and white felt a confidence they had not felt in their previous two games.

Following the halftime break, Immaculata's offense came alive and began peppering the red and white in their defensive third. Despite their best efforts Albright held strong, until the 59th minute when Lauren Bigos received a pass from Katie Becker to make it a 1-1 game.

Albright and Immaculata would remain deadlocked at 1-1 forcing the first overtime period of the season for both teams. However that overtime period did not last long as Boscola netted the game-winner only a 1:07 into the extra period.

The game-winner was Boscola's seventh of her three-year career. As a team, the red and white finished the afternoon with seven shots, while holding the Mighty Macs to eight of their own.

Immaculata also held a slight advantage over Albright in the penalty corners column totaling seven as compared to the Lady Lions six. DeLucas totaled three saves on the day to earn her first collegiate win, while her Immaculata counterpart Britt Worthington recorded just two stops.

Field Hockey returns to action this Saturday when they host Richard Stockton College at 1 p.m. in Shirk Stadium.
