READING, Pa. – There is truly no better way to honor a team's senior members then recording two huge wins over one of the top teams in your conference. That was the case Saturday afternoon in the Natatorium, as the Lions defeated Misericordia University by the final scores of 147-115 on the women's side and 156-106 on the men's side.
For the women's squad the Lady Lions combined for nine first place finishes, eight of which came in individual competition. The lone relay win came in the 400 free to close out the afternoon. Albright also combined for four second place finishes and one third place finish as well to earn the huge win over the defending MAC champions.
Top performers for the Lady Lions included
Allie Fies who took first in the 200 free (2:00.75), 100 free (55.19), and 500 free (5:37.40). Madi Hauk was another multiple winner as swam away with wins in the 200 fly (2:22.73) and 100 fly (1:02.69). Both of Hauk's times were new personal bests for the sophomore.
In the 50 free,
Katy Oeste won a hard fought race with her time of 25.99 seconds.
Aimee Snyder recorded a pair of wins as well on Saturday earning a new personal best in the 200 back (2:19.99). Her second win came in the 200 IM with her final tie of 2:18.59.
Senior
Kelly Williams nearly pulled out a first place finish in the long 1,000 free. Williams went stroke for stroke with Misericordia's Jessica Grant from start to finish. Grant managed to edge Williams by a mere two seconds as Williams finished with a time of 11:45.26.
The men's squad also recorded a combined eight individual first place finishes and one first place finish the 400 free relay. Senior
Eric Kramer placed first in the 200 free with a time of 1:48.07, while classmate
Chris Sheerer took first in the 100 back (54.85), 200 back (2:00.46), and 200 IM (2:01.81).
Sean Spellacy was also another multiple first place winner with his new personal best time of 10:42.00 in the 1,000 free and 5:08.66 in the 500 free.
Sophomore
Adam Kurtz gave the Lions some additional help on the scoreboard when he won the 100 and 200 fly with times of 54.86 and 2:06.92 respectively.
Swimming returns to action on Tuesday when they travel to Elizabethtown College for a 6 p.m. conference meet.
