Messiah's
Emily Hursh and
Kelly Martin scored twice each as the Albright College field hockey team fell 4-0 to the ninth-ranked Falcons, Tuesday in the Lions' final home game of 2011.
Sophomore goalie
Marguerite DeLucas made 12 saves and kept Albright in the game early, but an untimely goal just before halftime put the game all but out of reach.
Ten minutes in, DeLucas saved Messiah's
Caroline Wulf and the Falcons scrambled in the rebound, but the ball had crossed the endline before being knocked in.
Brooke Sands made a nice move off a corner and fired a high shot, but DeLucas was there to make the blocker save.
Soon after, freshman
Victoria Brito had Albright's best chance to go ahead when she broke free, knocked the ball past the final defender and ran it down, but she couldn't pull the trigger.
Messiah scored twice in under two minutes with a pair of first half goals that were mirror images of each other. First Juliana Hershey crossed from the left to Hursh for an easy finish from the middle of the area, and Kourtney Ehly fed Martin from the right sideline in a similar play.
Albright was still hanging tough, but fell asleep just before halftime, as Martin ripped in a long-range shot to beat the buzzer and give the visitors an imposing 3-0 lead at halftime.
The Lions are 5-13, 1-5 overall and conclude their 2011 season with a trip to Keystone on Saturday.
