Moore Catches Fire as Men's Basketball Beats King's, 87-60

Box Score

Sophomore reserve Reuel Moore made 5-of-6 three-point attempts and totaled 20 points in just 14 minutes of action to lead the Albright College men's basketball team past King's, 87-60 on Tuesday in the Bollman Center.

Senior Shane Irwin filled the box score with 12 points, eight rebounds, five assists, three blocks and three steals. Classmate Derek Hall added eight points and 10 boards.

All 14 Lions who saw the court scored in an all-around effort. Albright shot 32-of-57 from the floor (56.1%), and made 50% of its three-point attempts.

Having scored just 16 career points thus far, Moore was the big story in the first half, scoring 16 points including converting 13 points on five consecutive possessions to blow the game wide open.

After making two free throws with 4:58 on the clock, Moore was knocked down on his next shot but still made the three-pointer, and came down to hit another trey from the same spot 33 seconds later.

The red-hot Moore then swished a turn-around two, before getting free yet again for a three from the right side that had the entire crowd (and the Albright bench) on its feet, forcing the Monarchs, suddenly down by 17 points, to call timeout.

Albright stretched its halftime lead to 49-28 after sophomore Kyle Jordan converted a basket and the foul. He missed the shot but Irwin followed it up and fed Jevin Zimmerman to complete a four-point Lion possession.

Down 15-14 midway through the first half, the hosts ripped off a 10-0 run to pull ahead. The 6'11” Hall made an agile up-and-under to put Albright ahead, and Cornell Mickens duplicated the play from the same side of the basket.

Moore's first basket of the day, another three, made it 21-15 before Sam Marrella's three-ball stretched the Lions' lead to 24-15.

Albright converted just one field goal in the opening five minutes of the second half, but Hall's jumper in the paint kept them up by 19 and got things rolling again.

Moore got his first look of the second half with 10:42 remaining, and swished another three. The sophomore ended up going 6-for-8 from the floor.

Albright improves to 3-0 and will begin Commonwealth Conference play next Wednesday with a visit from Lycoming.
