The Albright College women's basketball team was hurt by a poor shooting performance and fell to the Moravian College Greyhounds by the score of 69-53, Saturday afternoon in non-conference action at Johnston Hall.
Albright shot 19-for-63 from the field and failed to record a field goal until
Jenny Knoebel hit a jumper five minutes into the contest. After the Lions found themselves down 18-8 halfway through the first period, they went on a run to cut into the deficit.
Amanda Tiritilli drilled a three pointer, and two possessions later
Jessica Venturelli knocked down a jumper with 7:36 to go to cut the lead to four at 19-15.
The rest of the first half would be controlled by Moravian, as the Greyhounds went on a 14-6 run in the final six minutes to take a 37-21 advantage into the break.
The Lions couldn't close the gap in the second half of play.
Meghan Boyle converted a layup with 18:53 left to make the score 39-26, but Albright couldn't get any closer as Moravian held their double-digit lead throughout the final 20 minutes of play.
Tiritill led all Lions scorers with 11 points to go with a team-high four assists. Also finishing in double figures for Albright was Knoebel, who shot 4-for-9 to finish with 10 points while also grabbing four rebounds. Boyle nearly finished with another double-double as she dropped in nine points and recorded a game-high 13 rebounds.
Moravian was led by
Amanda Kreuder and
Alexis Wright. Kreuder shot 5-for-6 from the field and finished with 13 points, while Wright had 14 points, seven rebounds and a game-high four steals.
The Lions outrebounded the Greyhounds 46 to 37, but also committed 20 turnovers compared to 10 for Moravian.
Albright falls to 3-6 and will have a week off before returning to action next Saturday for a non-conference game against Muhlenberg, scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. in the Bollman Center.
