Women's Basketball Earns Conference Win at Arcadia

Box Score

GLENSIDE, Pa. – After a very tough couple of weeks, women's basketball (7-14/3-8 CC) finally got back on the winning track as they recorded a 61-49 Commonwealth Conference victory over Arcadia University (7-15/1-10 CC) Wednesday evening. Fueling the victory was freshman Meghan Boyle who recorded her eighth double-double of the season against the Knights.

Boyle's double-double, her first since January 3rd consisted of 12 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. Senior MariLynn McMonagle led the Lions in scoring with her 16 points on 7-of-14 shooting. McMonagle finished just rebound short of notching her third double-double of the year as well.

For Arcadia, Jackie Law had another strong game recording her teams only double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Christine Taylor led all scorers Wednesday evening with her 18 points as she was 7-for-17 from the field, with three 3-pointers and one free throw.

Wednesday's contest got off to a rocky start for the red and white, as they trailed the host Knights for most of the first half. It was not until the final three minutes of play, that Albright was able to take their first and only lead of the night. With a key 13-1 run to close out the half, Albright was able to go into their locker room with a 30-24 advantage. Helping this late run was Jenny Knoebel who scored seven of her 11 points in the first half.

After the break a Boyle lay-up and a Rory Yerkes jumper quickly made it a 10-point game in the opening minute of the second half. Arcadia did manage however to cut the Lady Lions lead down to as much as three on two separate occasions. However clutch shooting by the red and white never allowed the Knights to retake control of the scoreboard.

In the final 10 minutes of play, the Lions shot 38% from the field and 83% from the line to preserve their conference victory. On the night they shot 37.5% on 27-of-72 shooting. From behind the arc they were just 1-for-8, while at the line they were 6-for-9.

Women's basketball will return to the Bollman Center this Saturday for their final home game of the year as they take on #9/11 Lebanon Valley College. Start time is scheduled for 2 p.m.

Saturday's match-up is also the annual PinkZone game in support of breast cancer research. All fans in attendance are asked to wear pink. Prior to the start of Saturday's game, the five senior members of this year's squad will be honored.
