READING, Pa. – In their 2011 conference opener men's tennis (0-3/0-1 Commonwealth) was handed an 8-1 loss by cross-town rival Alvernia University (2-5/1-0 Commonwealth) Saturday afternoon at Angelica Park.
Picking up the lone victory for the Lions was the third doubles pair of
Mike Callahan and
Ian Moore who defeated their Alvernia opponents 9-7. Most of Saturday's matches were close. At first doubles
Kenneth Ip and
Jason Lefkoe were handed an 8-6 loss.
In singles play, Ip forced Alvernia's number one singles player into a tie-breaker. Ip played extremely hard but it was the Crusaders Jed Spangler who recorded the 6-4, 7-6, 8-6 victory. Callahan also forced a tie-breaker and just like Ip was handed a tough 6-0, 6-7, 4-7, 10-8 loss.
Men's tennis will return to action on April 2, when they host Elizabethtown College at 11 a.m. on the Albright Tennis Courts.
