Late Goal Helps Aggies Sneak Past Albright in Lions' Season Opener

Box Score

Despite putting 13 shots on frame the Albright College field hockey team couldn't break through as the Lions fell 1-0 in their season opener, Thursday at Delaware Valley.

Albright goalie Marguerite DeLucas came up big with 12 saves, but her DVC counterpart Hollis Hancock stopped 13 shots en route to an impressive shutout.

The Aggies grabbed the winner with just over 12 minutes remaining, as Krystle Mazza fed Leah Hawthorn off a penalty corner.

The Lions held a 13-6 advantage in corners, but couldn't respond with a goal of their own. Junior Kaitlyn Pietrusewicz (five shots) and senior Beth Moran (three shots) did each challenge Hancock on several occasions.

Albright falls to 0-1 and will compete in a tournament at Susquehanna this weekend, facing the Crusaders on Saturday and then either Misericordia or St. Mary's on Sunday.
