The Albright College field hockey team defended well but fell victim to a pair of second half goals in a 2-0 loss to York, Saturday at Shirk Stadium.
Sophomore Marguerite DeLucas made eight saves in the first half, including a fantastic double-stop on York leading scorer Sandee Reich with 15 seconds left in the period. First, DeLucas dove to her right post to swat the initial shot away, then lept to block a high follow-up chance.
Albright defended well around their goal in the first half, knocking away several dangerous chances. Senior Madison Bailey made a great block on a shot following a penalty corner, 25 minutes into the game.
DeLucas made a kick save on Leah Hunsinger early on and then a nice stop to deny Colleen O'Rourke just after halftime.
York finally broke through in the 43rd minute, with Liz Maue poking in a pass from Hunsinger at the left post. The Spartans added another in the final minutes.
Albright's Taylor Kutz had a good shot off a penalty corner that was saved.
The Lions (0-4) travel to Cabrini on Tuesday.
