Rick Sutton overcame an early-season disappointment to seize the Albright Natatorium record in the 1650 free as the Lions men's swimming team defeated Elizabethtown, 121-68 on Tuesday.
Sutton's first crack at the 1650 here came back on November 19 against Messiah, where he missed
Andy Ikeler's record by just one-hundreth of a second. He left no doubts this time around, swimming 17:05.03 to lower the mark by 22.01 seconds.
Albright had the best time in all but one event as the Lions ran away with the meet.
Sean Spellacy,
Matt Bauer,
Tim Pierce and
Richard Edwards edged teammates
Dan Cahill,
Josh Park,
Adam Kurtz and
Bobby McNair by .26 seconds to take the top-two places in the 200 medley relay.
Rainer Floeter's 18:20.22 gave Albright 1-2 finishes in the opening two races, a streak they would extend to seven events.
Mike McBride (1:51.63) won the 200 free, with Pierce taking second. Edwards followed with a win in the 50 free, in 22.88, ahead of McNair.
Adam Vogel and
Sam Rosenthal took the top-two places in the 400 IM, before Kurtz, Bauer and
Drew Leahy swept the 200 fly. Park (52.92) finished ahead of
Brad Epstein as the Lions went 1-2 for the seventh consecutive race.
Albright began swimming exhibitions late, but would have taken the top three places in the final 200 free relay. Sutton (5:01.92) had the best time in the 500 free, and Rosenthal (2:25.39) the best in the 200 breast.
Albright improves to 10-1, 7-0 and will look to complete a perfect MAC dual-meet campaign on Saturday at King's.
