After winning the 2012 MAC championship with a young core, the Albright College men's swimming team was not desperate for reinforcements. The Lions still showcased an impressive rookie class on Tuesday however, with four different newcomers winning events in a victory over Lebanon Valley.
The Lions ran away with a 131-63 victory despite swimming several events as exhibitions. Freshman
Mitch Cain and transfers
Tyler Huizing,
Kyle Everson and
Alex Bauer all won races for Albright.
The Red and White grabbed the top two places in the opening 200 medley relay.
Ralph Porrazzo,
Josh Park,
Adam Kurtz and A. Bauer were first (1:53.17), ahead of
Rick Sutton,
Richard Edwards,
Matt Runtas and
Mike McBride (1:57.28).
Rainer Floeter followed with a victory in the 800 free (9:43.92), with freshman
Sean Yuschovitz (10:44.49) in third. Three rookies then swept the 200 free, led by Ocean County College transfer Everson (2:08.79). Yuschovitz was second and
Thomas Wicklund was third.
Bauer, a transfer from West Chester, won the 50 free with a time of 24.54. Adam Vogel was first in the 200 IM (2:18.13), ahead of Huizing. Both Bauer and Huizing are siblings of current Lion swimmers.
Huizing, a Rowan transfer, went on to win the 100 back in 1:08.25. Before that race, Cain took the 100 fly with a time of 1:02.91.
McBride, Kurtz and
Bobby McNair swept the 100 free, and Sutton led a 1-2-3-4-5 Albright sweep in the 400 free.
With the Lions swimming exhibitions, Alex's brother
Matt Bauer had the best time in the 100 breast- 1:11.43.
Albright is 1-0, 1-0 MAC and extends a 13-meet winning streak that dates back over a year. The Lions have their home opener on Saturday against Lycoming.
