With Alvernia 1.5 points away from re-claiming the Yocum Cup, the Albright College men's golf team rallied and went unbeaten over the final four matches to win 5-4 on Sunday.
Alvernia's
Gordon Dunlop and
Bobby Ranken opened the day with emphatic singles victories to go up 3.5-1.5 and put the pressure on Albright.
The Lions' top three all responded however.
Anthony Rusnak beat
Zach Arsenault 3-and-2 and
Brody Blessing took a 4-and-3 decision over
Tim Pici.
Albright sophomore and number-one
Avery Jones was all square through 11 holes with
Casey Osborne, but stormed to the finish with the Cup on the line, winning three of the final seven holes to clinch the victory.
With Albright at 4.5 points and already assured of retaining the Cup,
Sal Capelli's singles match was halted in a draw.
Albright is now 2-0 vs. defending Commonwealth champion Alvernia in head-to-head meetings this fall. The Lions win their sixth consecutive Yocum Cup after rallying from three points down in last year's tournament.
