Women's Basketball Game Notes at PSU-Berks

The Albright College women's basketball team heads to Penn State Berks tonight following a 1-1 weekend at Frostburg State's Jim Crawley Tip-Off Tournament.

Albright College Lions (1-1)

The Lions cut a 14-point deficit down to three but couldn't come all the way back, losing to Rowan 70-61 in the final of the  Jim Crawley Tip-Off Tournament.

Sophomore Tara Sabotchick made the All-Tournament Team, finishing with 11 points after leading the Lions with 14 a day prior. Five Lions finished in double-figures, including two of their three freshmen. Kadijah Bishop had a double-double with 10 points and 10 boards, while Kelecia Harris added 10 points and nine rebounds.

In a 69-55 victory over Immaculata, Sabotchick was 7-of-9 from the floor and led the team with 14 points. As a group, the Lions shot an impressive 53.3% from the floor and made 76% of their free throws. Sophomore Jessica Venturelli was in double-figures with 11 points, and senior Kari Ludy added 10 points and four assists. Junior Shawn Barczynski had seven points and nine boards in her return from injury.

Penn State Berks Nittany Lions (0-2)

Berks is 0-2 following two defeats at Dickinson's Days Inn Tip-Off Tourmament, including a 92-29 loss to Lynchburg College. In 79-52 loss to another Virginia opponent, Shenandoah, the Nittany Lions were led by sophomore Sherrie Satchel.  Satchel recorded the second double-double of her career with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Satchel also recorded three blocked shots, three steals, and two assists. Senior Fatima Rone chipped in nine points and seven boards, while Nichole Young-Trapp and Brittney Mitchell each added eight points.

Previous Meeting

In the 2011-12 season opener for both teams, the Albright used effective fullcourt pressure and some timely bench contributions to defeat the Nittany Lions 85-57.

Albright's defensive pressure helped cause 22 Penn State-Berks turnovers on the evening. Senior guard Jenny Knoebel led the defensive attack with four steals.

Off the bench, the Lions received huge contributions from sophomore guard Victoria Smith and Barczynski. Smith dropped in eight of her 10 points in the first half, while Barczynski totaled eight points and eight rebounds on the night.
