Box Score
Freshman Tara Sabotchik scored 17 points, including 15 before halftime, as the Albright College women's basketball team completed a season sweep of Arcadia with a 61-51 victory over the Knights, Tuesday night in the Bollman Center.
Sabotchik finished with a game-high 17 points on 8-of-13 shooting (she was 7-of-10 in the first half). Three other Lions were in double-figures, including
Jessica Venturelli (11 points) and
Jenny Knoebel (10 points).
Sophomore
Meghan Boyle turned in a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds. Junior
Kari Ludy just missed the feat with nine points and 14 boards.
Albright was trailing 7-4 early but took the lead on a five-point possession from Sabotchik. The freshman got a good bounce on a three-pointer to tie the game and Arcadia fouled on the box out, allowing the Lions to keep possession. That led to another Sabotchik hoop off the inbounds and a Lion advantage.
On the next possession, Venturelli hit a long two with a foot on the line, just as she had done to kick off the scoring in the first minute. Albright's run continued as Ludy banked it a shot for a 13-8 lead and Boyle completed a put-back for a 15-8 advantage.
Ludy's steal then led to a Knoebel lay-in and a 17-8 gap. Boyle's put-back kept her team ahead 23-15, and Ludy also had a put-back to preserve the eight-point lead (27-19).
Knoebel then stole a deep pass and found Sabotchik to make it 29-19. The Lions led 34-27 at the break.
Albright continued to fight off the Knights after halftime. A nice post move by Boyle restored a double-digit lead at 41-31. Knoebel then went coast to coast to put the Lions up 49-38.
With 1:32 left to play, Knoebel tipped in Boyle's blocked attempt to just barely beat the shot clock buzzer and make it 59-47 Albright. She went to hole again on the next possession for a 61-47 advantage.
The Lions improve to 6-18, 2-11 heading into their season finale on Saturday. Albright will host Widener, and recognize departing seniors Knoebel and
Crystal Cline.
