Box Score
In the first night lacrosse game ever played at Shirk Stadium, the Albright College men's team held off a late Richard Stockton rally to prevail, 12-10 on Tuesday.
Bryan Smith led the way with five goals, while
T.J. Holston (two goals, assist),
Ryan Turner (two goals) and
Philip Potter (goal, two assists) each had multi-point games as well.
Albright led 11-6 after Holston's goal with 12:16 remaining but the Ospreys unleashed a furious rally, scoring four times in under three minutes to pull within one.
Dave Soule scored a man-up goal from
Nick Bologno before the two reversed roles for another assisted tally at 9:49 to go.
Brian Santoleri then scored twice in a span of 41 seconds to make it a one-goal game and force a stunned Albright to call timeout.
The young Lions showed maturity beyond their years however, and shook off not only the comeback attempt but also a disallowed goal from Turner for a foot in the crease. The Red and White finally got an insurance goal from Potter with just under three minutes to go, and Smith and Holston each took turns evading defenders late to run some valuable clock.
Albright had played a fantastic opening quarter, leading 4-0 after 15 minutes. After a net save by
Andrew Torak, Smith made a nice cut to the middle and ripped one in for the opening strike. A tip save from Torak preceeded
Nicholas Pisko's goal after the Lions had stripped Stockton goalie
Noah Morris.
Potter had two great passes for assists late in the first, finding Smith and then Holston from behind the cage for a four-goal Albright advantage.
The Ospreys scored on a power play early in the second quarter, but Turner fought through an unnecessary roughness penalty to score the Lions' fifth- the second time of the day Albright had nullified a Stockton penalty with a goal.
Smith had another high velocity shot find the cage for a 7-1 lead, but Bologno answered with a crazy flip shot as he was being knocked to the ground. Bologno would score another highlight reel goal in the third quarter, finishing off a no-look attempt with his back to the target.
Bologno had five goals and two assists for seven points on the night. Santoleri added two goals and an assist.
Eugene Isola, one of the nation's leading faceoff men, won 18-of-24 draws and picked up 10 ground balls.
Torak finished with 14 saves for Albright, while defenseman
Mike Donohoe picked up six ground balls and forced four turnovers.
Albright improves to 7-1 and will host Neumann on Saturday. Stockton (3-4) will travel to Mt. St. Mary, also on Saturday.
