The Albright College men's lacrosse team scored 20-plus goals at home for the third time already this season, beating Neumann 21-7 on Saturday in Shirk Stadium.
Dan Foote scored six times, while fellow rookie
Philip Potter (3 goals, 4 assists) had seven points. Also contributing offensively were
Ryan Turner (3 goals, 2 assists),
T.J. Holston (2 goals, assist) and
Justin Brown (goal, two assists).
Freshman
Darian Meador won 15-of-21 faceoffs attempts and picked up six ground balls, while teammate
Tyler Ott won 7-of-10 draws.
Bryan Smith added a goal, an assist and a game-high eight ground balls.
As a team, the Lions won the statistical battle handily, out-shooting Neumann 63-21, picking up twice as many ground balls (62-30) and winning 22-of-31 faceoffs.
Albright struck late in periods to help pull away. Foote scored with 11 seconds left in the first quarter to give the hosts a 6-3 advantage.
The Lions would call timeout with a scoring chance at the end of the second, but drew up the right play as Potter found Foote wide open for a 12-5 halftime lead.
Albright scored two put-back goals in a 29-second span late in the third quarter. Smith picked up Foote's rebound and scored at 1:24, before Potter finished off his own chance with 55 seconds left.
Sam Maldou had a hat trick for Neumann, while
Ryan O'Kane added two goals and an assist.
Alex Becker made 12 second half saves in reserve.
Albright improves to 8-1 and guarantees at least a .500 record in its first varsity season; the Lions welcome Susquehanna on Wednesday. Neumann is 3-5 on the year.
