The Albright College field hockey team led at halftime but ultimately was beaten by a trio of Susquehanna goals after the break in a 3-1 loss, Saturday at Shirk Stadium.
Allison Dombrowski put the Lions on top after just over four minutes, slotting home after a penalty corner that was originally played in by freshman
Mackenzie Faight.
The Albright defense came up big the rest of the half- three minutes after the goal,
Marguerite DeLucas saved
Brodie Ercole, and senior
Courtney White later recorded a defensive save. The Crusaders forced in the rebound, but it was called off for a foul.
Susquehanna's
Margaret Ruth made a diving stop on Faight late in the first half, and Dombrowski's rebound chance behind the goalie resulted in a crucial defensive save by junior
Nancy Heidt.
Three minutes before the break, Faight assisted Dombrowski on an apparent goal, but a foul was whistled to deny Albright a 2-0 lead.
Just 90 seconds into the second period, DeLucas made a fantastic double-save off a corner to keep her side ahead. The hosts couldn't hold however, as a pair of goals from
Katherine Millett sandwiched an
Emily Reich tally and Susquehanna emerged with the 3-1 win.
Albright is 0-1 and will travel to DeSales on Wednesday, while Susquehanna is 2-0 on the year.
