Box Score
Sophomore Allison Dombrowski scored in overtime to cap a thrilling Reading battle as the Albright College field hockey team beat Alvernia 3-2, Saturday in Shirk Stadium.
Dombrowski's goal came 5:56 into the extra period. Senior
Kaitlyn Pietrusewicz got free on the right side and fed the sophomore all alone in the middle for the winner.
It was the second consecutive year that Dombrowski scored a goal to give the Lions their first Commonwealth victory of the season, after her late tally allowed Albright to beat Arcadia 1-0 last season.
The Lions held a 10-0 advantage in penalty corners in the first half but couldn't score, with Alvernia's
Nikki Wessner and
Erin Solley coming up with big defensive saves to keep things scoreless.
Albright was rewarded for its sustained pressure early in the second half, as Pietrusewicz fed
Alyssa Tourdot for the junior's 11th goal of the season (just 10 games in).
Alvernia started to take over the game but Dombrowski made it 2-0 off Tourdot's assist, forcing Alvernia to call timeout.
The Crusaders scored right after the re-start however, with
Summer Liberto breaking up the middle to finish and make it 2-1.
Albright goalie
Marguerite DeLucas attempted to protect the lead, making a nice blocker save on a chip shot off a penalty corner. Alvernia struck with two-and-a-half minutes left however to force overtime.
DeLucas and Alvernia'
Erin Wunsch were both solid in goal, making 13 saves each. Albright gets a crucial league victory and improves to 7-3, 1-1 on the year.
