Results
The Albright College men's swimming team grabbed an emphatic victory over one of its biggest conference rivals on Saturday, defeating Misericordia University 168-92 in the Natatorium.
Misericordia placed second to Albright at last year's Middle Atlantic Conference championships, and with the win the Lions move closer to a second consecutive undefeated MAC season.
Ralph Porrazzo,
Josh Park,
Alex Bauer and Matthew Runtas took the opening 200 medley relay, in 1:40.07.
Rick Sutton won the 1650 free, coming through 800 yards in 8:22 and finishing with a time of 17:25.52.
Tyler Huizing (17:48.30) was third.
Matthew Essington led a 1-2 Albright finish in the 200 free (1:50.57), with
Matt Bauer coming in second place. Porrazzo won the 100 back (54.05), while Sutton placed third overall.
Park won the 100 breast for Albright with a time of 1:04.24. Adam Vogel then won the 200 fly, in 2:04.29.
Albright swept the 50 free to help pull away. Runtas (22.03) edged A. Bauer (22.05) in a photo finish, with
Mike McBride placing third. McBride then came right back with a second place finish in the 100 free (49.26), the day's next event.
Three of the Lions top swimmers led a sweep of the 200 back, with Porrazzo (1:58.67),
Adam Kurtz and
Stephen Thomas. Thomas' sister Allison was competing on the other side for the Misericordia women.
In the 200 breast, Vogel (2:22.79) and Park (2:25.39) took top honors. Sutton then won the 500 free, in 5:01.40.
Runtas took the 100 fly (54.34) and Vogel won the 200 IM, in 2:03.24.
The Lions (9-2, 7-0) will travel to Elizabethtown on Tuesday night. Then next Saturday they host King's on Senior Day, where M. Bauer,
Quentin Hicks, Kurtz,
Bobby McNair,
Tim Pierce and
Connor Unger will be recognized.
